Halestorm
Led by charismatic vocalist/guitarist Lzzy Hale, Pennsylvania-based post-grunge/metal quartet Halestorm are one of the most successful hard rock groups of the early 21st century. With an aggressive yet hook-heavy sound that has become a fixture of American rock radio, Halestorm have toured restlessly, playing hundreds of shows per year and sharing the stage with nearly all of the popular American hard rock acts of their era. In 2013, the band took home a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance for the single “Love Bites (So Do I),” which appeared on their sophomore studio effort, The Strange Case Of…. Subsequent efforts Into the Wild Life (2015), Vicious (2018), and Back from the Dead (2022) have shown the group to be equally adept at muscular hard rockers and piano-driven power ballads, and their sound has branched out to include elements of dance music and pop-country.
Siblings Elizabeth and Arejay Hale, the core members of Halestorm, formed the group in late 1997 near York, Pennsylvania, with Arejay on drums and Elizabeth on vocals and keyboard. Wanting to expand their sound, the duo invited their father, Roger, to play bass with the band. Shortly after their first professional gig in 1998 at the Blue Mountain Coffee House in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Halestorm added various guitar players and released an EP, 1999’s (Don’t Mess with The) Time Man. More lineup changes occurred, but Halestorm finally solidified with Elizabeth (who was by then going by Lzzy) on vocals and guitar, Josh Smith on bass, Arejay on drums, and Joe Hottinger on guitar. The band caught the attention of producer David Ivory as well as Atlantic Records — both were involved in the group’s major-label debut, 2006’s One and Done, a five-song EP recorded live at a show in Philadelphia. They would finally make their full-length studio debut in 2009 with the eponymous Halestorm, all the while maintaining a rigorous touring schedule that would see them playing upwards of 250 shows a year.
The following year, Halestorm released the concert recording Live in Philly 2010, and Reanimate: The Covers EP appeared in 2011, featuring the band’s takes on songs by Heart, Guns N’ Roses, and Lady Gaga. Their sophomore album, The Strange Case Of…, followed in 2012, and the single “Love Bites (So Do I)” earned the group a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance. Reanimate 2.0 was released in 2013, this time finding the band tackling Fleetwood Mac, Daft Punk, and Marilyn Manson. Halestorm’s eclectic third studio long-player, the Jay Joyce-produced Into the Wild Life, was released in April 2015, and was preceded by the single “Apocalyptic.” The live EP Into the Wild Live: Chicago arrived in 2016, followed in early 2017 by their third covers set, Reanimate 3.0, which featured songs by Whitesnake, Metallica, and Soundgarden. Vicious, the band’s fourth studio long-player, followed in July 2018 and earned the group a Best Rock Performance Grammy nomination for the single “Uncomfortable.” 2020 saw Halestorm issue Reimagined, a six-song EP that featured stripped-down versions of five fan favorites and a cover of “I Will Always Love You.”
Two years later, they unveiled their fifth long-player, Back from the Dead. Produced by Nick Raskulinecz with co-production by Scott Stevens, the 11-song set included “The Steeple” and “Back from the Dead,” the latter of which became Halestorm’s sixth single to reach number one on the Active Rock charts. A deluxe edition of the album with seven new tracks arrived later that December. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi
Black Veil Brides
Committed to uncompromising expression, with a foundation in hard rock tradition and rule-breaking iconoclasm, Black Veil Brides is a transcendent celebration of life-affirming power and anthemic catharsis. A gothic vision first summoned in a small town by an isolated kid fascinated with death, rock, theatricality, and monsters (both real and imagined), Black Veil Brides is now a postmodern heavy metal institution with a legion of like-minded fans and supporters worldwide. Black Veil Brides champion the isolated, dismissed and forgotten ever since the band’s inception. That spirit persists in the fully realized modern incarnation of the band. They’re an object of devotion and obsession for those who sing their anthems in unison, a diverse legion who refuse to surrender.

2024 has been a significant year for Finger Eleven. The Juno Award-winning band, after 25 years, is currently on tour across America with Creed on the Summer of ‘99 arena tour, their long-time labelmates. Alongside the tour, Finger Eleven is actively working on their first new album in almost a decade, feeling the emergence of a major rock revival in the air.
Originally forming as Rainbow Butt Monkeys during their high school years, the band members, including Scott and Sean Anderson on vocals and bass, and guitarists James Black and Rick Jackett, felt the need for a fresh direction leading to the creation of Finger Eleven. Achieving early success with their self-titled album, produced by Johnny K and featuring the acoustic ballad “One Thing,” Finger Eleven quickly gained recognition, securing two gold and two platinum albums. Moving forward, the band embraced musical diversity with hits like “Paralyzer,” “Don’t Look Down,” “Gods of Speed,” and “Living In A Dream,” showcasing versatility and creativity in their sound. Their recent accomplishments with the cover of Pink Floyd’s “Welcome To The Machine” and the chart-topping single “Together Right” have set the stage for their upcoming album in 2025, evident in their latest preview single, “Adrenaline.” With a renewed artistic energy, Finger Eleven is poised to make a strong comeback, just in time for the anticipated rock revival.
Giovannie and the Hired Guns
In the last few years alone, Giovannie & The Hired Guns have grown from a massively beloved local live act to an undeniable new force on the national rock scene. Formed back when frontman Giovannie Yanez was working the counter at a pawnshop, the Stephenville, Texas-based band has amassed millions of streams almost entirely through word-of-mouth, thanks in no small part to their unforgettable live show—an electrifying spectacle that invariably leaves audiences sweat-drenched and ecstatic. With their high-octane collision of rock-and-roll and country, Giovannie & The Hired Guns are now at work on a hotly anticipated new album showcasing their hard-hitting sound, emotionally raw storytelling, and the kind of authentically gritty energy that’s sorely missing from rock music today.

Released on June 29th, 1999, Slipknot’s self-titled debut was a smash, becoming a hit with critics and an instant classic with fans. It was, and is, a molotov cocktail signaling a revolution– embracing a creative direction that eschewed metal traditions in favor of fresh ideas. While the jaw-clenching riffs coupled with Ross Robinson’s venomous production were crucial to the album’s success, it was the care and attention to detail in the songcraft that moved the needle from “great” to “benchmark.” Not too shabby for a bunch of guys that only hoped to be heard. “We loved what we did with the first record but we didn’t even know if there was gonna be anything after that,” recalls guitarist Jim Root. “We just wanted people to hear it. Selling out of records and shows, having successful tours– those are goals for any band. But the dream scenario in some ways, came true for us.
The infection spreads deeper and wider into 2024 and 2025, but Slipknot are not giving details as to what to expect. But it wouldn’t be Slipknot if they didn’t exceed fan expectations. “We have five OG members and lots of family in Slipknot,” recalls Clown. “We want to acknowledge what we are, where we came from and what we accomplished. We’re just Slipknot. We’re here to be. And we’re still walking uphill– it hasn’t leveled off. But you can definitely believe we’re already thinking about what’s next and next after that.
Fuel
Formed in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania by guitarist-songwriter Carl Bell in 1989. They are known for their hit songs “Shimmer” from the album Sunburn, “Hemorrhage (In My Hands)” and “Bad Day” from the album Something Like Human, as well as “Falls on Me” from the album Natural Selection as well as many other rock singles and albums. In addition, the band had multiple videos in heavy rotation on MTV, numerous live network TV performances in the US, Canada, and Australia, and songs on film soundtracks such as Scream 3, Daredevil, A Walk to Remember, and Godzilla. The album Sunburn is certified platinum by the RIAA, and the album Something Like Human is certified double-platinum. ‘Hemorrhage (In My Hands)’ held the #1 spot on Billboard’s Rock charts for over 3 months and in 2013 became the No. 6 Alternative Rock song of the past 25 years according to Billboard’s Alternative Chart 25th Anniversary Top 100 Songs.
After rebuilding their brotherhood, founder, guitarist, and songwriter Carl Bell and longtime drummer Kevin Miller didn’t just celebrate their history together. They rushed into the future joined by new blood—Aaron Scott [lead vocals, guitar] from The Voice, Mark Klotz [guitar, vocals], and Tommy Nat [bass, vocals]—and armed with their first album together in 18 years, Ånomåly. Much like the title suggests, it serves as the aberration rock music needs.

After spending the past two years conquering the U.K. and Europe with three sold-out tours, Dirty Honey returned to Byron Bay, Australia, in April ‘23 to record their sophomore album, Can’t Find The Brakes, with producer Nick DiDia (Rage Against The Machine, Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots).
The album’s first single, “Won’t Take Me Alive,” is a literal, take-no-prisoners-balls-out rocker. The album is available everywhere now.
Pantera
Pantera, the preeminent metal band of the early to mid-’90s, reshaped the metal scene by dismantling the remnants of ’80s metal genres. Initially part of the ’80s metal wave, Pantera transitioned to mainstream success with the addition of vocalist Phil Anselmo and the release of Cowboys from Hell (1990). Their breakthrough continued with Vulgar Display of Power (1992), propelling them to the forefront of metal alongside iconic bands like Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax. Far Beyond Driven (1994) solidified Pantera as the leading metal band with a top-charting album and hit single.
Despite their peak, Pantera faced internal conflicts, marked by Anselmo’s overdose and increasing tension within the band. As side projects took precedence, Pantera’s activity waned, culminating in albums like The Great Southern Trendkill (1996) and Reinventing the Steel (2000). The band members pursued separate endeavors, forming bands such as Damageplan, Down, and Superjoint Ritual. Tragically, Pantera’s legacy was marred by guitarist Dimebag Darrell’s on-stage murder in 2004. This event reignited the band’s prominence, cementing Pantera as an influential force in metal history, known for their unique ‘groove metal’ style and enduring impact on the genre.
Volbeat
Servant of the Mind is Volbeat’s eighth album, showcasing Michael Poulsen’s exceptional songwriting and storytelling skills. The album combines heavy metal, psychobilly, and punk ‘n’ roll genres to elevate Volbeat’s reputation to new heights. The lead single, ‘Wait A Minute My Girl,’ dedicated to Poulsen’s fiancé, secured the band’s ninth No. 1 on the Billboard Rock Airplay chart. Each track on the album delves into intricate narratives, such as ‘The Sacred Stones,’ ‘Shotgun Blues,’ and ‘The Devil Rages On,’ exploring dark themes and paranormal experiences. ‘Temple of Ekur’ and ‘Lasse’s Birgita’ continue the exploration of ancient and historical subjects. ‘Dagen Før’ provides a serene interlude with guest vocals by Stine Bramsen. Poulsen’s creative burst during the pandemic led to the swift creation of the album, a departure from the typical two-year album-making process, resulting in the powerful ‘Servant of the Mind.’

Known best for their 1984 anthem “Rock You Like a Hurricane” & the 1990 ballad “Wind of Change,” German rockers Scorpions have sold over 100 million records, making them one of the most successful rock bands to ever come out of Europe. In over 50 years, they have become Continental Europe’s most successful rock band, the living proof that not only VW, Mercedes or BMW are able to compete internationally, but classic rock music made in Germany as well. Countless bands, including the Smashing Pumpkins as well as Green Day, Korn, System Of A Down or Queensryche have covered their songs throughout the years.
However, countless silver, gold and platinum awards are only one side of the Scorpions’ history. Another is their unabated desire to travel. No other rock band of their caliber after so many years takes to the stage as often as the Hannover natives. They have played thousands of concerts in all corners of the planet: in Rio, Tokyo, Moscow, Washington, Dubai, Paris or Berlin. In 1988, they were the first Western rock band to play sold-out shows 5 days in a row in the then still Soviet Leningrad. Pioneering achievements elsewhere as well: through very early concerts in China and Southeast Asia, they have opened doors for many other Western bands. There were many magic live moments; some of them are captured on live albums, others on film & video recordings. These are the moments, which have cemented the Scorpions’ reputation as one of the rare bands rising far above the crowd!
White Zombie
For metalheads who thought bands like W.A.S.P. and Mötley Crüe just weren’t menacing or heavy enough, White Zombie was the perfect antidote for a period of time during the mid- to late ’90s, fusing B-horror movie visuals and subject matter with heavy music and growled vocals. White Zombie’s story begins with the larger-than-life singer, Rob Zombie, who almost entirely shaped the group. Rob, then known as Rob Cummings, initiated the White Zombie journey after moving from Haverhill, Massachusetts to New York City in the early ’80s.
Drawing inspiration from theatrical metallists like Kiss and Alice Cooper, as well as punk outfits like the Ramones, Rob Zombie initially worked in the entertainment industry before forming White Zombie with bassist Sean Yseult in 1985. The band, named after a Bela Lugosi flick, started as a New York Underground band before transitioning to a heavy metal sound. White Zombie’s shift towards a heavier sound was strengthened by the addition of guitarist J., and the incorporation of industrial rock elements, making them a unique entity in the hard rock scene of the era.
Geffen Records recognized the potential of White Zombie and released their major-label debut, La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1 in 1992. The album gained momentum with hits like ‘Thunder Kiss ’65,’ propelling the band to mainstream success. Following this, their album Astro-Creep: 2000 — Songs of Love, Destruction and Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head, became their highest-charting album, reaching number six on the U.S. Billboard charts. However, internal dynamics within White Zombie led to Rob Zombie eventually pursuing a solo career after the band’s breakup in the late ’90s. Rob Zombie’s solo ventures and creative pursuits like music albums and directing horror films have solidified his place in the horror-rock genre, while White Zombie’s early years were commemorated with a box set by Numero Group in 2016.
