Artimus Pyle Band Sets 2026 Tour Dates, Drummer Reflects on Lynyrd Skynyrd Legacy
The Artimus Pyle Band has confirmed a run of 2026 tour dates that will open August 27 at Music Box Supper Club in Cleveland, Ohio. The trek, led by former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle, will carry the group through seven states before wrapping November 7 in Kingman, Kansas.

Who Is In the Artimus Pyle Band Lineup?
Pyle now leads a seven-piece outfit that recently welcomed guitarist Barry Lee Harwood, a musician known for his stint in the Rossington Collins Band and for contributing dobro and mandolin work to Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Gimme Back My Bullets” album. The rest of the group includes frontman Thane Shearon, longtime bandmates Scott Raines and Jerry Lyda, bassist Johnny Jump and keyboardist Joe “Boogie” Simpson.
Artimus Pyle’s Connection to Lynyrd Skynyrd
Pyle is the only surviving member of Lynyrd Skynyrd who was on the plane that crashed on October 20, 1977, near Gillsburg, Mississippi, a disaster that killed three members of the band, including singer Ronnie Van Zant. He joined the group in 1974, ahead of recording sessions for the 1975 record “Nuthin’ Fancy,” after Charlie Daniels and members of the Marshall Tucker Band pointed Van Zant in his direction.
Speaking with Ultimate Classic Rock, Pyle said performing the band’s catalog still stirs something in him decades later. “Playing the music, I get emotional sometimes in the middle of a set doing a certain song. Tears will come to my eyes,” he said, adding that the feeling fades quickly once he refocuses on drumming. He also credited his current band with giving him purpose, saying it “has saved my life, and kept me alive.”
Pyle pushed back on the idea that Lynyrd Skynyrd was strictly a Southern rock act in its early years, calling the band’s 1970s sound “definitely hard rock.” He pointed to “Saturday Night Special” as an example of the group’s heavier, almost metal-leaning side, while describing “The Ballad of Curtis Loew” as sitting closer to country music.
