Bob Dylan will release a 39-CD box set titled “The Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1976 Live Recordings” on November 6, 2026, through Columbia Records and Legacy Recordings. The collection documents the second leg of Dylan’s 1976 Rolling Thunder Revue tour and contains 371 tracks that have never before been released.

  • Some outlets put the total track count of the collection at 381, with 371 of those songs newly unreleased.
  • The tour leg covered by the box set ran from April 18, 1976, in Lakeland, Florida, to May 25, 1976, in Salt Lake City, a span of 27 concert dates.
  • A press release for the set states that “almost all” of those 27 shows are represented across the discs.
  • A separate 3-LP release of the complete May 16, 1976 concert in Fort Worth, Texas, remixed from the original multitrack tapes, comes out the same day.
  • The 39-CD Deluxe Edition includes rare photographs and liner notes written by Mikal Gilmore.

Who Played on Dylan’s 1976 Rolling Thunder Revue

The band backing Dylan on this stretch of the tour included bassist Rob Stoner, violinist Scarlet Rivera, drummer Howie Wyeth, and a four-man guitar lineup made up of Mick Ronson, Steven Soles, David Mansfield, and T Bone Burnett. The road show also brought out a rotating cast of guest performers, including Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Willie Nelson and Allen Ginsberg.

Baez rejoined Dylan onstage for a handful of duets captured in the new set, among them renditions of “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Railroad Boy.”

Fort Collins Recording Tied to the ‘Hard Rain’ TV Special

The archival collection reportedly closes with the full recording of the May 23, 1976 concert in Fort Collins, Colorado. That performance served as the source material for “Hard Rain,” a live television special that aired just once that year.

‘Going, Going, Gone’ Preview and the Fort Worth 3-LP Set

Ahead of the November 6 release, Dylan’s camp has shared a previously unheard live recording of “Going, Going, Gone,” captured on May 16, 1976, at the Tarrant County Convention Center Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. That same concert forms the basis of the separate 3-LP release, which presents the full Fort Worth show remixed from its original multitrack tapes.

T Bone Burnett and Mikal Gilmore Reflect on the Tour

Guitarist T Bone Burnett, who played in Dylan’s band on the tour, called it a forerunner to a whole era of music that followed. “The Rolling Thunder Revue was the first national punk rock tour,” Burnett said. “It opened a door that led to a furious explosion of new music, the Clash, Elvis Costello, the Ramones, the Sex Pistols and on and on. Dylan had done it again. He is good at walking through doors that no one else even sees, doors that others think are walls.”

In his liner notes for the box set, writer Mikal Gilmore frames the surviving tapes as the only remaining trace of a Rolling Thunder film project that was never completed. “Play the music, close your eyes, and watch the story,” Gilmore wrote.
