Bret Michaels Cancels Remaining 2026 Tour Dates Following Comeback Show Setback

Poison frontman Bret Michaels, 63, has canceled all of his remaining 2026 solo tour dates. The decision came a day after he attempted a return to the stage on Friday, August 21, 2026, at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Sugar Hill, Georgia, his first show since undergoing surgery for a kidney stone in July.

• Michaels was scheduled to headline the Mountain Music Festival in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Saturday, August 22, 2026; that appearance was among the canceled shows.
• His official website had listed tour dates running through a November 14 show in Harris, Michigan, with six more dates in August and September and two additional November shows now scrapped.
• Michaels was hospitalized on July 19 after a kidney stone would not pass, following performances in Charleston, West Virginia; Grantville, Pennsylvania; and a July 18 show in Spokane, Washington.
• His medical team initially told him in July that he would need three to four weeks off before returning to the road.

Why Bret Michaels Called Off His Sugar Hill Comeback Follow-Up Shows

Michaels Entertainment Group posted a statement to social media on Saturday, August 22, explaining that doctors and paramedics evaluated Michaels immediately after the Sugar Hill performance and concluded he was not yet ready to keep touring. The statement said Michaels “will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”

His physicians, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, elaborated on that decision in a joint statement: “We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.”

Bret Michaels’ Kidney Stone Surgery and Type 1 Diabetes Complications

Michaels underwent surgery in July to remove a kidney stone and have a ureteral stent implanted after severe kidney pain followed a private show honoring military members at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Washington, on July 18. He was admitted to the hospital the next day after performing through pain in Charleston, Grantville and Spokane while the stone refused to pass on its own.

Dr. Borhan has said that Michaels’ recovery is complicated by his lifelong Type 1 diabetes, which weakens his immune system and slows healing, leaving him at elevated risk of a urinary tract infection or blood infection until the stent is removed. That risk factor, combined with summer heat, was cited as a central reason for pulling him from the road again after just one show.

What Bret Michaels Said About Canceling the Rest of His 2026 Shows

Michaels addressed fans in the comments of the cancellation post, thanking them for their support and acknowledging the timing of his return. “I may have just chosen to go sooner than I should have,” he wrote. “We will come back better than ever.”

He later said that a coast-to-coast flight ahead of the Sugar Hill show affected his blood sugar and blood pressure levels while he was still adjusting to new medication and insulin changes, and that the heat in the Atlanta area contributed to the setback as well. Michaels Entertainment Group said in its statement that it was looking ahead to Michaels returning to the stage “healthy, strong and ready to rock” once he completes his recovery.
