Bruce Springsteen Says a New Album Is Finished, But He’s Holding It Back for Now

Bruce Springsteen says he has already completed a new album, but he isn’t ready to put it out just yet. In a new interview with Rolling Stone writer Andy Greene, Springsteen explained that he’s simultaneously working on two separate records, and he wants to finish and release the other one first.

“I did finish one… it is done,” Springsteen said of the completed project. He described the second, still-unfinished album as feeling more urgent because of what it’s about, saying that record “felt like it should come out first.”

  • Springsteen’s last studio album, Only the Strong Survive, his 21st, came out in 2022.
  • He previously indicated a new record would land sometime in 2026, but no release date has surfaced as the year heads into its final stretch.
  • On September 10, 2026, he released a roughly 37-minute concert video called “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour (Philadelphia Freedom Cut).”
  • Three more video installments covering the rest of that same concert are planned before the end of 2026.

Is the Finished Bruce Springsteen Album a Solo Record or E Street Band Album?

Springsteen was coy when Greene asked whether the completed record is a solo effort or a full E Street Band project. “It’s a surprise,” was all he offered in response.

He did say the finished album isn’t tied to any particular moment, calling it “not time-relevant” and noting it “can come out at any time and it’ll work.” As for timing, Springsteen said he has no set release date but hopes it arrives “sooner than later.”

Bruce Springsteen’s New Philadelphia Concert Video

The freshly released “Philadelphia Freedom Cut” video captures seven songs from the final night of the E Street Band’s Land of Hope and Dreams Tour, filmed in May at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. Springsteen said he didn’t want to sit on the footage while a full concert film came together, so he opted to put out what was ready right away.

The rest of that Philadelphia show will roll out in three additional video segments before 2026 ends, with each installment featuring around seven songs. Once all four parts are released, fans will have access to the complete concert.

Bruce Springsteen on Touring Shorter Runs Going Forward

Springsteen also addressed his touring plans, saying he’s grown more drawn to shorter runs of about 20 to 30 shows rather than the sprawling tours he’s done in the past. He said he doubts the E Street Band will mount another 140-show outing given time constraints, though he expects a series of shorter tours hitting different regions at different times.

He praised the band’s current form, saying their recent performances rank among the best shows the group has ever put on.
