Carlos Santana is under fire after telling concertgoers at Red Rocks in Colorado that unresolved grievances cause cancer and that forgiveness can keep the disease at bay. Speaking to the crowd, Santana said, “If you wanna make sure that in your life you never have cancer, it’s important that you remember this: Grievances causes cancer. You will be clean.” He went on to say, without identifying anyone by name, that “a specialist on cancer… he said he never met anyone that had cancer that didn’t have grievances.”

The American Cancer Society similarly states that existing research has not established that a person’s personality, thoughts, or emotions cause the disease.
