Doro Pesch Unleashes Metal Cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Go Your Own Way’

Doro Pesch, the former Warlock frontwoman known as metal’s reigning queen, has put out a hard-charging cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way.” She recorded the track with Whitesnake guitarist Joel Hoekstra and Sepultura drummer Grayson Nekrutman, transforming the 1970s soft-rock staple into a full-throttle metal cut. The single serves as the first taste of “Steel Rumours: The Songs Of Fleetwood Mac Reforged In Metal,” a tribute album due out November 20 through Cleopatra Records.

Doro Pesch on Reworking the Fleetwood Mac Classic

Pesch said she jumped at the chance to reinterpret a song she has long admired. “I’ve always liked the song. And it was fun to give it a new twist, especially with a great guitarist like Joel Hokstra and powerhouse drummer Greyson Nekrutman,” she said.

The Story Behind ‘Go Your Own Way’

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham wrote “Go Your Own Way” about the collapse of his relationship with bandmate Stevie Nicks. Nicks has said she took issue with lines that painted her unfairly, telling Rolling Stone: “I very much resented him telling the world that ‘packing up, shacking up’ with different men was all I wanted to do. He knew it wasn’t true. It was just an angry thing that he said.”

Released as a single in December 1976, the song became a Top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100, reached number 38 in the UK, and was later certified 6x Platinum. Over the decades, it has drawn cover versions from artists such as Biffy Clyro, The Cranberries, NOFX and Thunder.

What to Expect From ‘Steel Rumours’

The tribute album will feature 12 tracks pulled from across Fleetwood Mac’s catalogue, reimagined in heavier arrangements. Confirmed songs include “Black Magic Woman,” “The Green Manalishi (With The Two Pronged Crown),” “Little Lies,” “Everywhere,” “Rhiannon,” “Gypsy,” “Dreams,” and Stevie Nicks’s solo track “Edge of 17,” alongside “Go Your Own Way.”

“Steel Rumours: The Songs Of Fleetwood Mac Reforged In Metal” arrives November 20 via Cleopatra Records.
