Jack Osbourne says the screenplay for the long-gestating Ozzy Osbourne biopic is complete and the production has moved into the search for a director. Speaking with E! News, Jack said of the script, “Script, done. We’re currently going out to directors. It’s gung ho.” No shooting schedule or release date has been set for the film, which Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment are developing alongside the Osbourne family.

  • Jack Osbourne is producing the film with his mother Sharon Osbourne and sister Aimée Osbourne.
  • The family has someone in mind for the lead role of Ozzy but has not named the actor.
  • Jack Osbourne hopes filming could start in spring or summer of next year, calling that timeline “a perfect world” scenario.
  • The project was first announced in 2021, with Oscar nominee Lee Hall originally attached to write the script.

Who Might Play Ozzy Osbourne in the Biopic?

Jack Osbourne told E! News that conversations have already taken place with a potential lead actor, though he stopped short of revealing a name. “I’m not allowed to say, but conversations have been had, and if it all works out, it’s gonna be awesome,” he said.

What Kind of Story Will the Ozzy Osbourne Movie Tell?

Jack Osbourne described the film as centered on the relationship between his parents rather than a broad career retrospective. He called it “really relationship-focused between my mother and father” and said the tone would lean closer to Walk the Line than to Bohemian Rhapsody or Michael.

Jack said the guiding principle behind every decision on the project is to “give the fans what they want,” and that the filmmakers are deliberately steering away from a more artistic or abstract approach. “We can’t make this artsy, kind of esoteric biopic. No, we’re not doing that,” he said, adding that the film is meant to serve the same audience Ozzy built through his music and live shows.

Ozzy Osbourne Biopic Background

The film was first announced in 2021 through Ozzy Osbourne’s official social media account. At the time, Sharon Osbourne said a movie chronicling their 45-year relationship was in development with Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment, with Oscar nominee Lee Hall, known for Rocketman, attached to write the screenplay.

Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, at age 76. One report on the biopic update attributed his death to a heart attack.
