A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has issued a series of pretrial rulings favorable to Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler ahead of his upcoming trial in a lawsuit brought by Julia Misley, also known as Julia Holcomb, who alleges he sexually abused her when she was a teenager in the 1970s. Judge Patricia A. Young’s rulings restrict several claims and pieces of evidence Misley had hoped to present when the case reaches trial on September 21, 2026.

  • Judge Patricia A. Young oversees the case in Los Angeles Superior Court.
  • Trial is scheduled to begin September 21, 2026.
  • Julia Misley (Julia Holcomb) filed her lawsuit in 2022.
  • An April 28, 2026 ruling had already narrowed the case to a single alleged 1974 incident in California.
  • Steven Tyler is 78 years old and denies any wrongdoing.

What the Judge Ruled Ahead of the Steven Tyler Trial

Judge Young denied Misley’s bid to keep out evidence suggesting she had consented to her relationship with Tyler during the 1970s. The judge also ruled that Misley may not testify about an abortion she says she underwent while involved with Tyler, nor bring up allegations of sexual assault she claims occurred once she turned 18.

Misley will not be allowed to describe Tyler using terms such as sex trafficker, nor to draw comparisons between her allegations and the Holocaust. She is also barred from claiming she was “forced” to remain with Tyler or that he was obligated, as her supposed legal guardian, to provide her with education, medical care, or food.

Despite those restrictions, the judge ruled that Misley can still introduce evidence that drugs and alcohol were present during incidents alleged to have occurred in California, giving her some room to argue the circumstances surrounding the encounter at the center of the case.

How Julia Misley’s Lawsuit Against Steven Tyler Began

Misley filed her lawsuit in 2022, alleging that Tyler used his celebrity status to gain control over her life, arranged an agreement with her parents that gave him legal guardianship of her, and sexually assaulted her over roughly three years starting in 1973, when she was 16. She has said the two eventually lived together and became engaged.

Tyler denies every allegation of wrongdoing. Through his attorneys, he maintains that his relationship with Misley was consensual and did not violate the age of consent laws in effect at the time.

Why the Case Was Narrowed Back in April 2026

In April 2026, a judge cut Misley’s lawsuit down to a single claim, tied to an alleged 1974 sexual encounter that took place in a hotel and a public hot tub in California. Claims connected to Massachusetts, Oregon, and Washington were dismissed on statute-of-limitations grounds.

Tyler’s attorney, David Long-Daniels, called that April decision “a massive win for Steven Tyler,” saying the court had dismissed with prejudice “99.9% of the claims against Mr. Tyler.” He added that the ruling left only “one night” from a three-year relationship still in dispute and said, “We look forward to trying this case on August 31.”

What Misley and Tyler Said in Their Depositions

In her deposition, Misley said she was groomed by a woman named Pennie before she ever met Tyler. She said Pennie brought her to concerts and “encouraged me to expect to have oral sex,” coaching her to dress provocatively, wear heavier makeup, and view sexual imagery meant to prepare her for sexual encounters.

Tyler gave a different account in his own deposition, testifying that he first met Misley when Pennie brought her along with four other girls into his dressing room. He said Pennie told him, “I brought these girls for you, and you can have your way with them. Just pick one or take them all.” Tyler testified that Misley sat on his lap and that the two spent that night together.
