Lindsey Buckingham Stalking Suspect Michelle Dick Found Not Competent for Trial

Michelle Dick, the woman facing felony charges for allegedly stalking former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, has been found not competent to stand trial. Los Angeles County Mental Health Court Judge Robert S. Harrison issued the ruling during a hearing held Thursday, August 6, 2026.

Judge Harrison delivered the finding directly to Dick in court, stating, “At this time, the court finds that you are not able to handle your case. You are not trial-competent.” The decision came after a court-appointed doctor evaluated Dick while she remained in custody and submitted a report to the judge.

The Allegations Against Michelle Dick

Prosecutors in Los Angeles County allege that Dick struck Buckingham with a motor vehicle and threw an unknown substance at him as part of what they describe as a stalking pattern spanning several years. An amended complaint states that Dick repeatedly followed and made unwanted contact with the musician between October 9, 2021, and March 25, 2026.

According to the criminal complaint, Dick used a vehicle to assault Buckingham on March 19, 2026, and on the same day vandalized his Mercedes-Benz S450, marking the car with what prosecutors describe as graffiti and other inscribed material. Six days later, on March 25, 2026, Dick allegedly located Buckingham in Santa Monica, California, and threw a substance at him before running off. Buckingham, 76, was not hurt in that incident, and a law-enforcement source told reporters it remains unclear whether the substance was corrosive.

Dick was taken into custody in Indiana in April 2026 following the Santa Monica confrontation, which allegedly violated an existing restraining order. After being extradited to California, she entered a not guilty plea to all seven charges on May 6, 2026.

Background on the Restraining Order

Buckingham first pursued legal protection from Dick in November 2024, alleging that she “swatted” his home by placing a 911 call falsely claiming shots had been fired at his family’s residence in Brentwood, which triggered a heavy police response. A judge approved a restraining order the following month, in December 2024, mandating that Dick remain at least 100 yards away from Buckingham, his wife, and his son for a period of five years, while also prohibiting any contact and barring her from approaching their homes or vehicles.
