Neil Peart Documentary ‘No One’s Disciple’ Trailer Unveiled Ahead of TIFF Premiere
Canada’s CBC released the first trailer on September 2, 2026, for “Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple,” a documentary chronicling the life of the late Rush drummer. The film is scheduled to have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 16, 2026.
The 96-minute documentary comes from directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, the pair behind the 2010 Rush film “Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage” as well as “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey” and “Iron Maiden: Flight 666.” Following its TIFF debut, the film has a public screening set for September 19 and is scheduled to air on CBC’s “The Passionate Eye” on September 23.

Who Appears in the Neil Peart Documentary Trailer?
According to a synopsis from TIFF, Rush’s Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson join forces with four drummers, Stewart Copeland, Danny Carey, Chad Smith and Gavin Harrison, for what the festival calls an exhilarating and poignant tribute to Peart. The trailer shows Smith, Copeland, Carey and Harrison recreating Peart’s drum parts alongside Lee and Lifeson on the kit.
Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers offers a blunt appraisal of Peart’s playing in the trailer, saying, “The drum parts are so iconic and straight-faced. He was a stone cold assassin!” Stewart Copeland recalls once asking Peart how he managed to inspire so many fans to air-drum along with his parts, and jokes that he felt winded, “I thought I was fit,” after his own turn behind the kit.
What Do Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson Say About Neil Peart?
Alex Lifeson remembers his early doubts about Peart fitting in with the band, saying in the trailer, “I remember thinking there’s no way this guy is cool enough to be in our band.” Geddy Lee follows that memory by recalling that Peart then launched into a run of triplets, played “really cool, really fast.”
Lee also speaks to the emotional weight of the years since Peart’s death, saying in the trailer, “After Neil passed away, we never really were able to pay tribute to him, and that weighed on me a lot.” Original Rush drummer John Rutsey departed the band in 1974, and Peart joined only a few weeks afterward.
