Roger Taylor Announces New Solo Album ‘Violence Insane in a Beautiful World,’ Shares ‘I See You Now’ Single

Roger Taylor, drummer for Queen, has revealed the title and release date of his seventh solo album, ‘Violence Insane in a Beautiful World.’ The record arrives September 18 via Columbia Records and is being introduced with a second single, ‘I See You Now,’ paired with a new music video and a run of UK tour dates announced for September.

‘I See You Now’ first played on air during Vernon Kaye’s show on BBC Radio 2. The track is accompanied by a black-and-white music video, save for one splash of color: Taylor’s ruby red hi-tops. The video was made by Taylor’s wife, Sarina Taylor, working alongside his longtime collaborator Simon Lupton.

What Roger Taylor Has Said About ‘I See You Now’

Taylor described the new single as a tribute to his wife rather than a broader statement piece. “It’s a love song,” he said. “It’s really about my wife. We’ve been together for quite some time, and I think when you really get to know someone, at first you really don’t see everything about them, but when you really get to know someone, it’s, ‘Oh, I see you now. That’s it.'”

The Meaning Behind ‘Violence Insane in a Beautiful World’

Taylor has pointed to the album’s title as a summary of its concerns. “There seems to be all this insanity at the moment,” he said. “The violence in the world seems to be as bad as it ever was, at any point, and certainly in my lifetime. It’s just horrific, a lot of insane violence.”

Taylor wrote, produced, sang and played nearly every song on the record himself. The lone exception is a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy,’ which Taylor called “one of the greatest ballads ever written.” Longtime collaborator Joshua J. Macrae and members of Taylor’s live band also contributed to the album, and South Africa’s Ndlovu Youth Choir from Limpopo appears on three of its tracks.

Is Queen Still Together?

Taylor’s solo album arrives as Queen’s future as a group remains an open question. In a Rolling Stone digital cover story published last year, Taylor said he does not view the band as finished. “I don’t think we’re done,” he said. “And I don’t think we’re gonna say, you know, final farewell tour or whatever. ‘Cause it never is, is it?”
