Rolling Stones Sign Deal With 101 Studios for Band Biopic

The Rolling Stones have reportedly reached an agreement with American production company 101 Studios to produce a feature film about the band’s history. Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood are said to have signed the contract last month, according to insiders cited by The Sun.

101 Studios has built its reputation through television, having produced series such as Landman, Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown. A source close to the situation described the arrangement as an early-stage agreement, noting that the band trusts the company based on its previous work.

According to the insider, casting has not yet begun for the project. The look, tone and narrative direction of the film are still being worked out, meaning key creative decisions remain unmade at this point.

This puts the Rolling Stones film several steps behind the Beatles biopic project it follows. That earlier deal covers four separate films, each centered on one member of the Beatles, directed by Sir Sam Mendes. Harris Dickinson takes on the role of John Lennon in the project, while Sir Paul McCartney’s part goes to Paul Mescal, George Harrison will be played by Joseph Quinn, and Barry Keoghan is set to portray Ringo Starr, with all four movies slated for release in 2028.

What Has Mick Jagger Said About a Rolling Stones Biopic?

Asked earlier this summer whether the Rolling Stones might ever greenlight a film about themselves, Jagger responded, “I have thought about it a lot.” He has also said the concept of a band biopic “interests” him.

Jagger was notably specific about how his younger self should be portrayed on screen. He said he wants whoever plays him at 20 years old to genuinely be in their twenties, adding, “So it would be a pretty unknown actor. It wouldn’t be a big star actor.” He elaborated that the right choice would be “someone just on the cusp of being famous” who could bring youthful energy and a sense of innocence to the role, seemingly steering away from an established name like Harry Styles taking the part.
