Sammy Hagar is calling on fans to keep Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in their thoughts after Tropical Storm Marie tore through the resort town on Wednesday, flooding streets and damaging his Cabo Wabo club. The storm brought winds of 75 mph and left buildings and local services damaged, prompting the venue to shut down early and send its entire staff home.

  • Tropical Storm Marie struck Cabo San Lucas on Wednesday with 75 mph winds.
  • No deaths had been reported from the storm as of the report.
  • The system was strengthening as it moved toward Southern California and was expected to be upgraded to a hurricane.
  • Cabo Wabo’s longtime manager, Jorge Viana, described the aftermath as “a disaster.”
  • Hagar’s Birthday Bash events at Cabo Wabo are scheduled for October 9, 11 and 13, celebrating his 79th birthday.

Hagar shared a video on social media showing the extent of the flooding in downtown Cabo San Lucas shortly after it happened. “Prayers for #cabo,” he wrote. “This is two hours ago downtown. The Cabo Wabo closed earlier and sent all the employees home to their families. It may be a couple days before we can get things cleaned up and open the doors again.”

Hours later, Hagar gave fans a further update after hearing from Jorge Viana, who has managed Cabo Wabo for years. Hagar said Viana’s message to him was simply that “everything is a disaster.”

What Is Sammy Hagar’s Connection to Cabo Wabo?

Hagar opened Cabo Wabo in 1990 alongside his bandmates from Van Halen at the time. He later bought out their shares in the club in 1996, during the same period of tension with the band that led to his initial departure from Van Halen that year.

Jorge Viana has run Cabo Wabo on Hagar’s behalf ever since it opened, and he has told the singer he will continue passing along updates as recovery efforts unfold. The club is also home to Hagar’s annual Birthday Bash, a small-scale party event capped at a limited number of attendees.

Will Sammy Hagar’s Birthday Bash Still Happen?

This year’s Birthday Bash dates are set for October 9, 11 and 13 at Cabo Wabo, tied to Hagar’s 79th birthday. Hagar has previously told fans without tickets not to bother showing up, since the event is not open to walk-ins.
