Sting has signed on to narrate a new documentary about Nino Rota, the Italian composer best known for scoring “The Godfather.” The film, titled “Nino, A Film About Nino Rota” and directed by Walter Fasano, is scheduled to make its world premiere on September 11 as part of the Open section at the 83rd Venice Film Festival.

The project traces the life of Rota, whose music helped define the sound of Francis Ford Coppola’s crime saga. Fasano’s documentary offers a wider look at the composer’s career and creative development beyond that single, famous score.

Who Was Nino Rota’s Musical Background?

Before becoming one of cinema’s most recognized composers, Rota studied under Ildebrando Pizzetti and Alfredo Casella, two figures who shaped his formal training as a musician. That grounding in classical composition would later inform the film work for which he became internationally known.
