Stapleton introduced the Lifetime Achievement Award by describing what the Heartbreakers’ music has meant to him personally and to listeners more broadly. “Words cannot express how much that catalog of music means to me, but also to the world,” he said. “It transcends genre, it transcends Americana, it transcends lots of things. It heals and it makes you feel good and it makes you want to drive too fast. And it makes you want to play music, that’s what it did for me.”

Adria Petty accepted the award on behalf of her late father, thanking Stapleton for “uniting the band” and saying she could not picture anyone else joining the Heartbreakers on stage with, in her words, “so much soul and trust.” Campbell, in his own remarks while accepting the award, said he remains “still grieving” his former bandmate’s death: “We’ll probably be grieving until the last day I live. But I’m ok, and we’re ok, and he’s ok, and the music is alive thanks to you.”

Coverage of the ceremony has not been unanimous on who received the Lifetime Achievement Award that night. Most reports of the Americana Honors & Awards state that the Heartbreakers were the recipients, while one account instead credited the award to Dolly Parton, a discrepancy that has not been resolved across the reporting on the evening.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Box Set on the Way

The reunion performance coincided with news of a new Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers box set, titled “Origins 1971-1978,” set for release on November 6, 2026.
