Corrosion of Conformity is one of the pioneering punk-metal fusion bands originating from North Carolina in the early ’80s. Founded by guitarist Woody Weatherman, the band quickly gained recognition for their aggressive sound, politically charged lyrics, and unique departure from traditional hardcore and metal norms. As they evolved in the ’90s, their transition to a more stripped-down, deliberate style infused with a touch of Black Sabbath’s essence from the Deep South propelled them into the realm of alt-metal, attracting a wider mainstream audience.
Debuting in 1983 with their intense album Eye for an Eye influenced by Black Flag, Corrosion of Conformity’s lineup consisted of Weatherman, drummer Reed Mullin, vocalist Eric Eycke, and bassist Mike Dean. Despite facing lineup changes and label challenges, the band persevered and eventually found their signature sound with Blind in 1991, solidifying their place in the heavy metal scene. Over the years, Corrosion of Conformity navigated through various lineup adjustments, musical transformations, and successful album releases, culminating in their enduring legacy in the rock music world.
