Read MoreThe Police
The Police were an English rock band formed in London in 1977. The band consisted of Sting (lead vocals, bass guitar, primary songwriter), Andy Summers (guitar), and Stewart Copeland (drums, percussion). This lineup remained unchanged throughout the band’s history, leading to global popularity from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Emerging in the British new wave scene, their music was a blend of rock, punk, reggae, and jazz influences.
Their debut album, Outlandos d’Amour, marked the beginning of their success, featuring hit singles like “Roxanne” and “Can’t Stand Losing You”. Subsequent albums like Reggatta de Blanc, Zenyatta Mondatta, and Ghost in the Machine continued to showcase their musical evolution and critical acclaim, with chart-topping singles becoming anthems for their fans worldwide. Synchronicity, their final studio album, solidified their status as a legendary band with iconic tracks such as “Every Breath You Take”. The Police disbanded in 1986 but reunited successfully in 2007 for a memorable world tour, solidifying their place as one of the greatest bands of all time.
With over 75 million records sold, The Police are regarded as one of the best-selling bands in history. They have been honored with numerous awards, including six Grammy Awards, two Brit Awards, and an MTV Video Music Award. In 2003, The Police were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and their albums have been recognized as some of the greatest in music history. Their impact on the music industry led to their inclusion in lists of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” by Rolling Stone and the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” by both Rolling Stone and VH1.
