Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, known professionally as Wale, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. Starting his music career in 2006, Wale gained recognition with the popularity of his song ‘Dig Dug (Shake It)’ in his hometown. He further solidified his reputation by signing with English DJ-producer Mark Ronson’s label, Allido Records, in 2007. Throughout his career, Wale has released several mixtapes and made appearances on major platforms like MTV and Black American-focused magazines, showcasing his talent to a wider audience.
With a successful debut album ‘Attention Deficit’ released in 2009 under Interscope Records, Wale garnered attention with hit singles like ‘Chillin’ featuring Lady Gaga and ‘Pretty Girls’ featuring Gucci Mane. He later joined Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group and continued his musical journey with albums like ‘Ambition’ in 2011 and ‘The Gifted’ in 2013, both receiving positive reviews. Wale’s consistency and talent were further highlighted with his Billboard chart-topping album ‘The Album About Nothing’ in 2015. Over the years, Wale has continued to evolve his sound, releasing multiple EPs and studio albums, including ‘Wow… That’s Crazy’ in 2019 and ‘Folarin II’ in 2021. His versatility extends beyond music, as he made a notable appearance in the film Ambulance directed by Michael Bay in 2022.
