Raised in the diverse neighborhoods of all five boroughs of New York, she draws inspiration from classic rap groups like Run-D.M.C., whom she admired and emulated in her early days of practicing rap. Amil’s journey as a rap artist began at 12 when she started performing at local talent shows, quickly gaining recognition as a promising female rapper in the industry. In 1997, she became a member of the group Major Coins, where she crossed paths with the renowned rapper Jay-Z. It was during Jay-Z’s recording sessions for his third album that Amil got the opportunity to showcase her skills, leading to her collaboration on the album.
