August Alsina, born August Anthony Alsina, Jr., has overcome a tumultuous upbringing to establish himself as a prominent figure in contemporary R&B music. His journey from a troubled childhood in New Orleans to a successful career in the music industry is nothing short of inspiring. Alsina’s early years were marked by moving to Houston with his family after Hurricane Katrina, seeking refuge from the challenges posed by his father and stepfather’s struggles with addiction. Despite these adversities, Alsina’s passion for music shone through as he started posting cover songs on YouTube, garnering thousands of views and setting the stage for his future stardom.
After relocating back to New Orleans and experiencing personal tragedy with the loss of his brother, Alsina decided to pursue his musical aspirations wholeheartedly. He made the bold move to Atlanta in 2011, where he delved into creating mixtapes and honing his craft as a singer. His breakthrough came in 2013 with the release of his debut single, ‘I Luv This Shit,’ under Def Jam Recordings. This marked the beginning of a successful partnership that led to the production of his debut album, ‘Testimony,’ featuring collaborations with industry heavyweights like Rick Ross and Pusha T. Despite facing health challenges, including seizures and a degenerative eye condition, Alsina continued to produce music, releasing his second album, ‘This Thing Called Life,’ in 2015.
