Deborah Cox

Deborah Cox, a talented artist hailing from Toronto, embarked on her musical journey at a young age, showcasing her vocal prowess through TV commercials and talent shows with the guidance of her mother. Similar to the iconic Whitney Houston, Cox caught the attention of Arista Records president Clive Davis right after finishing high school. Her debut album in 1995, supported by renowned names like Babyface and Dallas Austin, featured her first hit single “Sentimental,” which she co-wrote. Cox’s success continued with chart-topping tracks like “We Can’t Be Friends” from her 1998 album One Wish and club favorites from The Morning After in 2002.
Venturing into different genres, Cox paid tribute to Dinah Washington with her 2007 album Destination Moon, backed by a full orchestra. She explored musical theater in Jekyll & Hyde alongside Constantine Maroulis, which later hit Broadway in 2013. Cox’s versatility shone in the Whitney Houston biopic and with chart-topping singles like “Beautiful U R” and “If It Wasn’t for Love.” Embracing her role in The Bodyguard musical tour in 2016, Cox released an EP of Houston covers titled I Will Always Love You in 2017. Her collaborations with artists like John Legend and her contribution to the Broadway label showcase Cox’s enduring passion for music and performance.
