dj poolboi is the moniker of Austin Texas’ resident Adam Ansley. In 2017 Ansley started quietly releasing lo-fi house music under the moniker as a side project. An upload of his track “we can be happy” on the EELF Youtube channel began to pick up viral traction and attention. Channelling his own struggles Ansley crafted a unique form of electronic music creating emotional melodic house and instrumental songs mixing elation and nostalgia with melancholy.
Building on the experimental dance music of trailblazers such as Radiohead, Four Tet, Caribou, and Jamie XX, his music found its own niche and began to take flight online. With a strong visual presence from his many music videos, poolboi has amassed over 80k subscribers on his Youtube channel. With over 34 million streams to date, the artist began landing coveted opening gigs across North America. The artist’s debut LP “it’s good to hear your voice” came out in March of this year on Majestic Casual to heavy fanfare. A new official remix for Moby came out in August.
The artist follows this up with his first new material in a new electronic indie/pop crossover direction with the massive end-of-the-night dance floor anthem, “motions”. Featuring Canadian rising bedroom pop act FLOOR CRY on vocals, the song strikes a perfect balance with its 80’s inspired bassline and driving synths. The song will sweep you along on its winding journey.
