Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, along with Masters at Work partner “Little” Louie Vega, has been a prominent figure in the house music scene. Together, Gonzalez and Vega have produced and remixed countless tracks that have left a lasting impact on dance music. With salsa, disco, and house being their main shared strengths, Gonzalez introduced his expertise in rap music while Vega approached from a freestyle perspective. Their collaborations have resulted in full-length albums, including projects under the Masters at Work and Nuyorican Soul names. Gonzalez also achieved success with the 1995 hit single “The Bomb! (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)” under his disco-house alias, the Bucketheads.
Similar to Vega, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, born in Brooklyn, established himself as a DJ before and during his partnership with Vega. In the ’80s, he founded the Dope Wax label and produced for various New York dance labels. The duo of Masters at Work originated as a partnership between Gonzalez and Mike Delgado, evolving into a powerhouse in the music industry. Gonzalez’s solo projects and his studio project, the Bucketheads, have seen significant success with chart-topping singles and albums. He has continued his musical journey through solo productions and DJ releases, showcasing his diverse skills and influences across different labels and mix albums.
In addition to his solo work, Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez, alongside Terry Hunter, formed Mass Destruction and released a collaborative full-length album in 2009.
