Mt. Joy

When Mt. Joy, consisting of singer/guitarist Matt Quinn, guitarist Sam Cooper, bassist Michael Byrnes, drummer Sotiris Eliopoulos, and keyboardist Jackie Miclau, united to work on their second album Rearrange Us, they found themselves in a challenging situation. The band was dealing with personal and relationship struggles, trying to navigate through the difficulties that arose while constantly traveling between Stockton and Peoria.
Despite the hardships, Mt. Joy was appreciative of the experiences that shaped their rock-and-roll journey. Their debut album under Dualtone Records in 2018 marked a significant turning point, garnering praise and recognition from various sources. Receiving acclaim as ‘folk-rock heroes’ by Rolling Stone and being hailed for a ‘major breakthrough’ by Billboard, their single ‘Silver Lining’ even topped the AAA Radio Charts.
The culmination of their efforts is Rearrange Us, a testament to resilience and introspection. Produced by Tucker Martine, known for his work with My Morning Jacket and Modest Mouse, the album showcases Mt. Joy’s evolution both musically and personally. Matt Quinn’s songwriting embodies a nuanced blend of imagery and emotion, offering glimpses into a fragmented yet vivid dream-like memory. With a diverse range of musical styles, from folk to psychedelic to gospel influences, the band’s authentic energy provides solace in the journey of growing up and pursuing aspirations.
