Oingo Boingo, although often compared to Devo, never reached the same level of mainstream success. However, the band garnered a dedicated fan base, particularly in their hometown of Los Angeles, CA. Originating in the ’70s when movie director Richard Elfman assembled the group for the film Forbidden Zone, Oingo Boingo initially went by the name Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo before shortening it in 1979.
