Phoenix is a French indie rock band from Versailles, formed in 1995. The band’s lineup, consisting of Thomas Mars, Deck d’Arcy, Christian Mazzalai, and Laurent Brancowitz, has remained unchanged since their inception. Thomas Hedlund has been the band’s session and live drummer since 2005. Known for their unique sound blending indie pop, synth-pop, pop rock, and new wave, Phoenix has released seven studio albums. Their fourth album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, achieved significant success in 2009, earning a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. The singles ‘1901’ and ‘Lisztomania’ were pivotal in their rise to fame.
In 2013, Phoenix released their fifth album, Bankrupt!, which debuted at number 3 on the French Albums Chart and number 4 on the Billboard 200. Their sixth studio album, Ti Amo, released in 2017, showcased Italo disco influences and celebrated the band’s European and Latin roots. Alpha Zulu, their seventh studio album released in 2022, was recorded at the Louvre Palace during the COVID-19 pandemic and dedicated to their late producer Philippe Zdar. Phoenix’s diverse performances include headlining Coachella and Primavera Sound and the 2024 Summer Olympics closing ceremony at the Stade de France in Paris, where they collaborated with artists like Kavinsky, Angèle, and Ezra Koenig.
