Queens of the Stone Age emerged from the stoner rock underground of the 1990s to become one of the leading heavy rock bands of the 21st century. The release of their major-label debut, Rated R, in 2000 marked a significant transition for the band. The album showcased QOTSA’s unique blend of thick, grimy guitars and shape-shifting psychedelia, reflecting frontman Josh Homme’s desert roots. Throughout the years, Homme has been the constant force in QOTSA’s ever-changing lineup, guiding the group through various studio albums and live performances.
The roots of Queens of the Stone Age can be traced back to Homme’s earlier band, Kyuss, a prominent stoner rock group in the ’90s. After Kyuss disbanded, Homme embarked on a new musical journey that led to the formation of Queens of the Stone Age. The band’s self-titled debut album in 1998 showcased Homme’s musical prowess, as he played multiple instruments on the record. Despite lineup changes, QOTSA continued to evolve, collaborating with renowned musicians and exploring new musical territories with each subsequent album.

This album, produced solely by the band members, showcases QOTSA’s maturation and musical maturity, earning critical acclaim and Grammy nominations.
