Sheff G, a rapper blending the sonics of Chicago and U.K. drill with his unique style, emerged as a leading figure in New York’s drill scene. His hit single ‘No Suburban’ marked the beginning of his rise to fame, captivating audiences worldwide with his Panic series of singles. Over the years, Sheff G has evolved his sound, dropping albums like ‘The Unluccy Luccy Kid’ in 2019, ‘One and Only’ in 2020, and ‘From the Can’ in 2022.
Born and raised in Brooklyn’s Flatbush district, Sheff G, originally known as Michael Williams, entered the rap scene inspired by Chicago’s drill music. Despite early involvement in gang activities, Sheff G penned his breakthrough single ‘No Suburban’ while on probation for a shooting incident. His fusion of Brooklyn essence into the U.K. drill style, exemplified by ‘No Suburban,’ gained immense popularity, solidifying his status as a local star. After a brief hiatus, his return with ‘Panic, Pt. 2’ in April garnered a substantial following in the U.K. drill community.
Throughout 2018 and 2019, Sheff G maintained a steady stream of singles like ‘We Getting Money’ and expanded the Panic series. His debut mixtape ‘The Unluccy Luccy Kid’ showcased versatility, featuring tracks ranging from drill-fusion to mellower tones. Collaborating with artists like Sleepy Hallow and Mozzy, the mixtape dropped in September 2019. Subsequent releases like ‘One and Only’ in 2020 and ‘Proud of Me Now’ in 2020 reflected his growth. Despite legal issues leading to a prison sentence, Sheff G continued to deliver music, culminating in the 2022 release of ‘From the Can’.
