Silverchair is recognized as one of the most celebrated and accomplished bands in Australian music history. Originating from the Newcastle surf suburb of Merewether, the group’s members, including singer/guitarist Daniel Johns, drummer Ben Gillies, and schoolmate Chris Joannou on bass, began their musical journey in primary school. Their major breakthrough came in the mid-1994 after winning a national demo competition hosted by SBS TV show Nomad and triple j.
Since their inception in 1994, Silverchair has attained remarkable global success, exceeding six million in album sales across their notable albums such as Frogstomp, Freak Show, Diorama, Neon Ballroom, and Young Modern. Their album, Young Modern, marked a significant milestone by becoming the fastest-selling record of their illustrious career. With an impressive record of 21 ARIA Awards, the band holds the record for the most awards won by any artist in history, and they boast the highest number of #1 albums among Australian bands. Notably, Daniel Johns stands as the sole recipient to clinch the esteemed APRA Songwriter Of The Year Award three times.
