Suzy Bogguss, a celebrated figure in country and Americana music, champions the essence of connection in her life. With a distinguished career spanning four decades, she has evolved from chart-topping country hits in the ’90s to exploring diverse genres. The lockdown of 2020 was a turning point for Suzy. Inspired by her audience’s desire for new music, she found the confidence to create her album Prayin’ For Sunshine. Recorded at her home, the album showcases her southern storytelling, emotive vocals, and country roots. It’s a blend of personal and reflective tracks, some inspired by her experiences on the road and others by her observations and personal stories.
Initially, Suzy worked alone on the album, crafting songs on her guitar. Later, she collaborated with a band, embracing a new process where the tracks were built around her performances. The recording sessions captured the genuine chemistry and camaraderie among all the musicians involved. The familial ambiance during recording mirrored the atmosphere of Suzy’s annual soup nights, featured in her cookbook, “Suzy’s Soup Night.” Both the book and the album celebrate music, storytelling, and community, emphasizing the connections formed on our collective journey. Suzy feels revitalized, cherishing both her classic hits and her new material. She named the album Prayin’ For Sunshine as a symbol of hope in troubled times.
