Jamaican-born emcee Hoodcelebrityy, also known as Tina Pinnock, hails from the St. Catherine Parish region where she was immersed in reggae music and culture during her early years. Upon moving to the Bronx as a pre-teen, she delved into the vibrant world of New York rap and hip-hop. Spending her formative years working in retail, Hoodcelebrityy found solace in freestyling on her Instagram during breaks, sparking the birth of her alter ego. The catalyst for her internet breakthrough came in 2015 when her close friend Cardi B shared one of her impromptu freestyle videos, propelling her into the spotlight. Hoodcelebrityy’s debut single, “Wine Pon It,” showcased her unique blend of raw Jamaican reggae and gritty East Coast rap swagger, captivating audiences with her distinct style.
Following her initial success, she continued to release singles like “The Takeover,” fusing trap and dancehall influences. Her live performances, including opening for renowned artists like Shaggy, further solidified her presence in the music scene. In 2017, she unveiled her debut mixtape, “Can’t Believe It’s Just a Girl,” followed by the release of her second mixtape, “Trap vs. Reggae,” later that year. Transitioning towards a more mainstream sound, her single “Walking Trophy” showcased a refined approach compared to her earlier works, leading to its inclusion in the EP “Inna Real Life” in 2018.
