TLC

TLC, one of the biggest-selling female groups of all time, achieved superstardom in the ’90s with their unique blend of post-new jack swing R&B and pop. The group, consisting of Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes, and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, captivated both pop and R&B audiences with their catchy hooks, bouncy funk, and spirited attitude. Known for their flamboyant style and confident demeanor, TLC rose to fame with their star-making second album, CrazySexyCool, which was followed by the successful Fanmail. Despite facing tragedies like the loss of Lopes in 2002, Watkins and Thomas continued to perform and record as TLC into the late 2010s.
Originating from Atlanta, Georgia in 1991, TLC was formed when Watkins and Lopes branched off from another group and later joined forces with Thomas, producer Dallas Austin, and manager Pebbles. Signing a deal with LaFace Records, TLC released their debut album, Ooooooohhh…On the TLC Tip, in 1992. The group’s evolution continued with the blockbuster success of their second album, CrazySexyCool, which showcased a more mature and refined musical style. Despite facing internal tensions and delays, TLC’s third album, Fanmail, achieved great success with hits like ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Unpretty.’ Through ups and downs, including public feuds and solo projects, TLC remained a cultural phenomenon and paved the way for their later releases and ventures.
