Young M.A
Young M.A, a hardcore rapper from New York City’s Brooklyn borough, is known for her raw and unapologetic approach to music. Her lyrics reflect a tough outlook on life, as heard in her introspective track “Though the Day” where she candidly addresses the loss of her brother. Rising to fame with the 2016 hit single “OOOUU,” Young M.A continued to make waves with her 2019 album “Herstory in the Making” and the 2021 release of her second album, “Off the Yak.” Part of the RedLyfe group, Young M.A first grabbed attention in 2014 with the crew’s standout performance in “Brooklyn (Chiraq Freestyle).” Recognized by prominent figures in the industry, she was introduced as “one of the dopest MCs right now” by Buckshot during Mobb Deep’s celebratory event in April of the same year. Opting to stay independent, Young M.A teamed up with Duck Down for marketing and distribution, leading to the successful release of tracks like “Body Bag” and the EP “SleepWalkin.” Her breakout hit, “OOOUUU,” climbed the Billboard Hot 100 charts and became one of the most popular rap songs of the year, sparking remixes featuring artists like A$AP Ferg, French Montana, Nicki Minaj, and the Game. Despite turning down major-label deals, Young M.A’s music journey thrived, culminating in the release of “Herstory in the Making” in 2017, an EP that charted on the Billboard 200. Continuing her momentum, she dropped a string of singles in 2018 and 2019 before unveiling her first full-length album. Her distinct sound earned her a place in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 with “Herstory in the Making,” showcasing collaborations with notable artists like Monica, Relle Bey, and Max YB. Maintaining her independence, Young M.A’s Red Flu EP in 2020 and subsequent album, “Off the Yak,” displayed her evolution as an artist. Collaborations with Fivio Foreign and Chris Webby added to her versatility, leading up to the release of the solo single “Tip the Surgeon” in 2022, solidifying her status as a force to be reckoned with in the rap scene.
