The Doobie Brothers have exciting news for fans as they prepare to release their upcoming album, *Walk This Road*, set for release on June 6, 2025. This highly anticipated project marks the first new original studio album from the band featuring Michael McDonald since 1980, reviving the legendary collaboration between McDonald, Patrick Simmons, Tom Johnston, and John McFee. In addition to the return of McDonald, the album promises to deliver the classic Doobie Brothers sound while exploring new musical territories, as evidenced by its first two released tracks, “Walk This Road” and “Call Me.”

The album was secretly crafted in the winter of 2024 with the guidance of renowned producer John Shanks. Together, they worked with the band members to blend their individual styles into a unified sound that pays homage to the band’s legacy while pushing forward into new sonic realms. Notably, the title track “Walk This Road” embodies a powerful message of hope and unity and features guest vocals from acclaimed soul artist Mavis Staples. This track serves as a testament to the band’s desire to experiment and branch out, moving beyond their tried-and-true methodologies.

Themes of recovery and enlightenment resonate throughout the album, with Simmons stating that the music reflects a process of “waking up to see the important things you’ve been missing.” The song “Lahaina,” previously released in 2023, features collaborations with musical icons Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono, and is part of a charitable effort to support victims of the wildfires in Maui that year, showcasing The Doobie Brothers' commitment to making a positive impact both musically and socially.

Adding to the excitement surrounding the album’s release is the announcement that The Doobie Brothers will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2025. McDonald, Johnston, and Simmons will all receive honors in the Performing Songwriters category, acknowledging their incredible contributions to the world of music and their impact on fans and fellow artists alike. This induction ceremony is scheduled to occur in New York City shortly after the album’s release, further cementing 2025 as a pivotal year for the band.

As the countdown to June 6 continues, fans are encouraged to pre-order *Walk This Road*, available on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms. Notably, the album will be available in a special tiger’s-eye vinyl edition, catering to collectors and long-time fans. Following the album’s release, The Doobie Brothers are slated to embark on a global tour, giving audiences around the world a chance to experience their timeless hits alongside new fans.
