Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder is set to release his much-anticipated fourth solo album, The Vault – Fifty Years of Music, scheduled for release on May 23. This remarkable collection comprises newly recorded songs Felder has created over the past five decades, offering a rich tapestry of his enduring musical journey. Each track on the album reflects a different stage of his artistic development, with the album title speaking to Felder’s expansive timeline of song creation. Long-time fans and new listeners alike can expect a variety of rock anthems and ballads that demonstrate Felder's evolution as a musician.

The leading single from The Vault is “Free At Last,” which is accompanied by a lyric video now available for fans to indulge in (watch below). Felder describes this song as a heartfelt tribute to the freedoms that await, a melodic contemplation on finding peace beyond life's burdens. This track is just one example of the emotional depth and lyrical prowess that Felder brings to the entirety of the album. From the era-defining “Move On,” penned in 1974, to the more contemporary “I Like the Things You Do,” written in 2023, the album paints a comprehensive picture of Felder’s creative milestones.

An impressive aspect of “The Vault” is the inclusion of several collaborations with renowned musicians from the rock industry. It features contributions from members of Toto, including David Paich, Steve Lukather, Joseph ‘Joe' Williams, and Greg Phillinganes. These respected artists help to bring a vibrant new energy to Felder's composition, enriching the musical soundscape of his works. Drummers Greg Bissonette, Brian Tichy, and Todd Sucherman, along with other accomplished musicians such as Timothy Drury and Nathan East, also share their talents, highlighting the collaborative aspect of Felder’s project.

With a career originating from Gainesville, Florida, Felder carved a niche early in rock music, gaining initial attention from watching Elvis Presley perform. He formed his first band, The Continentals, at just 13, which included future rock legends like Stephen Stills. Felder’s tenure with the Eagles in 1974 marked a notable transition for the band from country rock to a more guitar-led style. His work, notably the co-writing and performance of the legendary guitar solo in “Hotel California,” solidified his reputation as a quintessential guitarist. This solo, among other contributions like “Victim of Love” and “Those Shoes,” has become historic in rock music archives.

After departing from the Eagles in 2001, he embarked on a solo career that saw releases like Road to Forever (2012) and American Rock ‘n' Roll (2019), both of which garnered significant acclaim. His collaborations have featured luminaries such as Stevie Nicks, Barbra Streisand, and Michael Jackson, further establishing his standing as a versatile and influential musician.

Don Felder’s new album is a collective celebration of his vibrant musical journey over the past fifty years. With tracks like “Hollywood Victim” and “Let Me Down Easy,” plus more, listeners are in for a treat, whether they're longstanding fans or newly discovering his work. The album not only encapsulates his rich history but also presents his music with a refreshed outlook, and promises to be an essential addition to any rock enthusiast’s collection.
