The highly anticipated documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes, is set to make a grand debut at the upcoming 2025 Tribeca Festival in New York City. This two-part original film by HBO will open the festival with an in-depth look at the legendary musician’s life and career. Scheduled to premiere on June 4 at the iconic Beacon Theatre, the documentary promises to provide an intimate glimpse into Joel's personal and professional life through never-before-seen performances, home videos, and personal photos. This premiere marks a significant event for both the artist and the festival, underscoring the symbiotic relationship between Joel’s artistry and the cultural fabric of New York City.

Jane Rosenthal, co-founder and CEO of the Tribeca Festival, highlighted the significance of having Billy Joel's documentary as the opening feature. Rosenthal expressed her enthusiasm in a statement, emphasizing Joel as a quintessential symbol of New York's heart and soul. The film celebrates his distinctive connection with the city, encapsulated in his music and persona, especially through his iconic anthem New York State of Mind. The festival, running from June 4 to 15, will not only showcase the documentary but also feature a diverse array of films, talks, games, and immersive experiences, bringing together both emerging and established artists.

Introducing ‘Billy Joel: And So it Goes' at the festival serves dual purposes of promoting cultural appreciation and providing fans with a chance to see a more personal side of the iconic artist. The documentary will later air on HBO and stream on HBO's Max service in the summer, allowing a broader audience to experience Joel’s story. Ticket packages and Tribeca Festival memberships are currently available for those eager to witness the documentary’s debut, with single tickets scheduled to go on sale on April 29.

Billy Joel’s enduring relationship with New York is not only celebrated in this documentary but also mirrored through his decade-long residency at Madison Square Garden, which ended in July last year. At 75, Joel continues to be a beloved figure in music, though he is temporarily pausing his tour to recover from surgery. His commitment to live performances remains strong, evidenced by his future tour plans, including joint performances with renowned artists like Rod Stewart and Sting.
