Mumford & Sons are set to rekindle the spirit of their 2011 Railroad Revival Tour with a new 2025 edition, starting on August 3rd at New Orleans' Woldenberg Park and culminating on August 7th at the Champlain Valley Exposition Center in Burlington, Vermont. The band, known for its innovative folk-rock style, aims to elevate their live performances with a unique railroad journey across four states, including South Carolina and Virginia, offering audiences an unforgettable musical experience. The revival tour, featuring a train journey between venues, emphasizes collaboration and creativity, hallmarks of both the band and the original tour concept.

The upcoming tour will be graced by an all-star ensemble dubbed the “house band,” including renowned artists such as Celisse, Chris Thile, Ketch Secor, Leif Vollebekk, Lucius, Madison Cunningham, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Trombone Shorty, with additional artists expected to join. Each concert will showcase unique performances, exciting collaborations, and new music. This innovative approach embodies the band's ethos of people and collaboration, as stated by Marcus Mumford. He remarked that the tour represents unfinished business on the great American railroad, striving to deliver distinctive shows that reflect the collaborative spirit they cherish.

Tickets for the 2025 Railroad Revival Tour will become available on May 16th, with presales commencing on May 15th for Mumford & Sons' Agora fan community members, ensuring that dedicated fans get earlier access. This tour is seen not just as a series of concerts but as an immersive experience echoing the success of the initial 2011 tour, which concluded triumphantly in New Orleans, drawing thousands and grossing significant revenue. The concept explores a nostalgic and romantic view of touring, significantly altering how artists engage with audiences and landscapes during tours.

The inspiration behind this reimagination of the tour is rooted in the success and popularity of the original Railroad Revival, which left a lasting impression due to its unique travel-by-train format and the camaraderie it engendered among participating musicians. This was captured poignantly in “Big Easy Express,” a documentary that chronicled the original tour and won a Grammy Award for Best Long Form Music Video. Following the 2011 trek, the band had attempted a similar venture in 2012 but canceled due to logistical complications, making this revival a highly anticipated event for fans and the band alike.

In addition to the four-stop railroad tour, Mumford & Sons continue to support their recent album, “Rushmere,” through a more conventional North American tour, with shows across major cities such as Los Angeles and New York City. The North American tour will stretch into Europe, marking a busy year that highlights their dedication to live performances and connecting with audiences on a broader scale. It's clear that the band intends to use these tours to merge live musical exploration with a sense of adventure, drawing on past influences while creating fresh, unique experiences in each location.

This combination of traditional and railroad tours marks a pivotal year for Mumford & Sons as they strive to leave an indelible mark on the concert landscape with their innovative use of rail transportation as both a literal and symbolic journey through music. As they revisit the rails with renewed purpose and a stellar lineup, fans can expect an expansive, communal experience aimed at fostering new musical memories along the American East Coast. The legacy of the Railroad Revival Tour as a pioneering model continues to grow, leaving fans eagerly anticipating what the new lineup and performances will bring to each stop and promising an unforgettable summer of music and collaboration.
