Billy Corgan, the frontman of the renowned rock band Smashing Pumpkins, has embarked on a new venture to celebrate the anniversaries of the band's iconic albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines of God. This grand celebration includes announcements of a solo tour under the new project name Billy Corgan and the Machines of God, an extensive box set, and an ambitious opera in collaboration with the Chicago Lyric Opera.

With the 30th anniversary of Mellon Collie in 2025, Corgan is bringing a unique blend of theatrical and musical experience to the stage in the form of an opera. The partnership with Chicago’s Lyric Opera will see Corgan performing alongside an orchestra and chorus, with special guest artists enhancing the experience. The opera, titled A Night of Mellon Collie and Infinite Sadness, promises to be an auditory and visual spectacle scheduled for November 21-30. This series of performances is set to reimagine the beloved album within a lush operatic framework, celebrating the album's influence on a generation.

In tandem with this, Corgan has diligently remixed and remastered the albums Machina/The Machines of God and Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music. The exhaustive 80-song box set encapsulating these works will be available exclusively at Madame Zuzu's, Corgan’s tea shop in Highland Park, Illinois. This collector's item not only brings together the Machina albums in a cohesive package but also offers fans a treasure trove of demos, outtakes, and live performances. Alongside this, the original Machina album will see a special vinyl reissue, set to hit the shelves on August 22.

Corgan’s upcoming solo tour, dubbed “A Return to Zero,” commences in June 2025. The tour will feature a newly crafted band lineup with guitarist Kiki Wong, drummer Jake Hayden, and bassist Kid Tigrrr, alongside Corgan himself. They are set to perform a repertoire that celebrates both the Mellon Collie and Machina albums, along with newer tracks from the 2024 release, Aghori Mhori Mei. This North American tour will visit noteworthy small venues, offering an intimate setting for audiences to immerse themselves in both nostalgia and fresh musical explorations from Corgan’s discography.
