Journey keyboardist Jonathan Cain is teasing the possibility of a reunion when the band’s Final Frontier tour wraps up in San Francisco on November 28, 2026. The show at Chase Center will close out a roughly 100-date run across North America and mark the end of the tour in the city where Journey formed more than 50 years ago.

“It’ll be fitting to end there for sure,” Cain told The Independent. “Who knows who’s going to show up? I don’t know. There might be a reunion of sorts, I hope.”

  • Journey’s Final Frontier tour concludes November 28, 2026, at Chase Center in San Francisco.
  • The tour is billed as a roughly 100-show run across North America.
  • San Francisco is where Journey formed more than 50 years ago.
  • Cain has said the Final Frontier tour will be his last with Journey.

Could Steve Perry Return for Journey’s San Francisco Finale?

Cain’s comments have reignited speculation about former singer Steve Perry rejoining the band. Earlier in 2026, Cain told Ultimate Classic Rock that guitarist Neal Schon had already asked Perry to come back, saying “He says [Perry’s] thinking about it. I hope he comes out. It’s never too late. We’ve got 100 shows, so he’s welcome at any one of them… He didn’t say no, leave it at that.”

Perry responded with a statement calling the rumors “simply not true” and asking to “gently put them to rest.”

What’s Next for Jonathan Cain After Journey

Cain has announced that the Final Frontier tour will be his last with Journey, and he said the band’s future “kind of remains up in the air” when it comes to any dates beyond the tour, including a possible extension into 2027. “I’m not nearly done with what I want to do,” he said. “I think there’s many great opportunities in the future. Whether or not it’s with everybody that’s here right now, I’m not certain.”

Neal Schon on Journey’s Hometown Finale and the Final Frontier Setlists

Guitarist Neal Schon expects the San Francisco show to carry extra weight given the city’s history with the band. “I’m sure it’s going to be somewhat emotional because that’s where it all started,” he said. “I know the audience is going to be off the hook.”

Schon also said he has enjoyed the tour’s two-hour sets, which have mixed hits with deep cuts. “I’m loving it because it’s the type of show I’ve been wanting to do with Journey,” he said. “I thought musically we could go any place that we wanted to. And so now we’re doing that, finally.”

Cain offered his own take on why the band’s music continues to resonate with audiences. “I like to say Journey is certain music in uncertain times,” he said. “Journey is a soundtrack to a lot of people’s lives.”
