Patti Smith, the legendary punk poet, is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of her iconic album, Horses, by performing it in full during a highly anticipated tour. Fans both long-time and new have been eagerly waiting for the opportunity to experience this classic album live, as Smith announced her farewell performances of the record. The much-awaited tour is scheduled to kick off on October 6th, 2025, in Dublin before spanning across major cities in Europe and the U.S.

Smith will be accompanied by original band members, guitarist Lenny Kaye and drummer Jay Dee Daugherty, who were pivotal in bringing the original Horses recording to life. Alongside them will also be Tony Shanahan, on keyboard and bass, and Smith’s son, Jackson Smith, on guitar. Together, this ensemble will breathe life into an album that has profoundly influenced the punk rock genre. Though Smith has expressed a distaste for the “punk” label, Horses is known for its fusion of poetry and raw, simple rock chords. This hallmark combination resonates with audiences as much today as it did at its release in 1975.

Though it's been two decades since Smith last performed the entirety of the seminal album live, this upcoming series of concerts promises to be a stirring tribute to an album that has stood the test of time. As she embarks on this international journey, Smith remarks, “Please join us to help celebrate the final ride of our irreverent thoroughbred,” signaling these performances will be her final full renditions of this seminal work. The announcement of the tour was met with enthusiasm from music fans globally, eager to honor the artistic and cultural legacy Smith has created over the years.

Tickets for this highly anticipated tour go on pre-sale on February 12, 2025, with general sales opening on February 14. The excitement and anticipation surrounding these concerts have been palpable, as they offer a rare chance to hear an album live that many consider a cornerstone of rock history. As Smith takes Horses on its ‘final ride', the concerts promise to be an essential experience for anyone cherishing the profound impact she has had on music culture for over half a century.
