Pink Floyd to Press ‘Meddle’ on Orange Marble Vinyl for National Album Day 2026

Pink Floyd will release a San Tropez Orange Marble vinyl edition of their 1971 album ‘Meddle’ through Sony Music on October 17, 2026, timed to National Album Day. On the same date, the band’s YouTube channel will post a newly restored, high-resolution cut of the ‘Echoes’ film sequence, the closing section of the 1973 Australian surf documentary ‘Crystal Voyager.’

What Is the ‘Echoes’ Sequence From ‘Crystal Voyager’?

‘Crystal Voyager’ is a 1973 surf documentary out of Australia, directed by David Elfick and written and narrated by surfer, photographer and filmmaker George Greenough. Its closing passage was captured by Greenough himself, who built his own underwater camera rig weighing seventeen pounds to film from a vantage point never previously seen on screen: inside a breaking wave.

Greenough has said he came across Pink Floyd’s music by chance, through a record his mother had purchased for him, and settled on the band’s 23-minute track ‘Echoes’ once he realized its length lined up almost exactly with his wave footage. Because he lacked the funds to license the song outright, Greenough and Elfick instead worked out an exchange with Pink Floyd: the filmmakers could use ‘Echoes,’ and in return the band could use the underwater wave footage as a visual backdrop during their concerts.

“I’d never heard Echoes before until my mother got it for me,” Greenough said. “When I heard it, I went, ‘my god, that’s gotta be the soundtrack!’ We asked about using it, and we made a deal with Pink Floyd, and everybody had smiles on their faces. That was over 50 years ago, and the footage and the audio still looks and sounds groundbreaking today. I’m just so stoked that this whole thing is coming about; it’s amazing to work with Pink Floyd again. The big sound and the big picture; you can’t beat it!”

National Album Day 2026: Full ‘Icons’ Lineup

National Album Day 2026 is being billed as its biggest lineup to date, built around an ‘Icons’ theme for physical and online music retailers throughout the UK. The event is run jointly by the BPI and ERA, with support from BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds, and is designed to bring record labels, independent shops and high-street chains together around album-format releases.

Alongside Pink Floyd’s ‘Meddle,’ the 2026 slate includes special pressings tied to George Michael, The Who, New Order, The Pretenders, Suede, Pulp and Sade.
