In Birmingham, the anticipation is palpable as the world readies for the launch of two monumental exhibitions centered around the legendary Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. These exhibitions are not merely celebrations of musical achievements but serve as poignant acknowledgments of the cultural impact that Ozzy Osbourne and the original Black Sabbath lineup have had since their beginnings in Birmingham. Scheduled to open on June 25, 2025, these events coincide with Black Sabbath’s historic “Back To The Beginning” reunion concert at Villa Park, bringing together fans from around the globe in a grand salute to heavy metal's forefathers.

The “Working Class Hero” exhibition at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery offers fans an intimate glance into Ozzy Osbourne's storied career. Free to the public and running until September 28, the exhibition presents an impressive array of accolades including Grammy Awards, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame honors, MTV Awards, and more. Visitors will also find a collection of Ozzy’s gold and platinum discs which recognize millions of record sales. Complementing these artifacts are photography and video displays that chronicle Ozzy's transformation from a working-class Aston youth to an internationally renowned rock legend. As articulated by Sharon Osbourne, this exhibition is a heartfelt tribute to the fans and Birmingham, “the place where it all began.” It embodies the indomitable spirit and extraordinary achievements of Ozzy, emphasizing that with enough passion and resilience, remarkable feats are achievable.

Running parallel to this exhibit, a captivating outdoor Black Sabbath photography exhibition occurs in Victoria Square. This space will animate with archival images of the band’s original ensemble — Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward — providing a visual journey through their Album artwork and historical roots. Furthermore, the artistic tribute extends to Navigation Street where renowned spray artist Mr. Murals has painted a sprawling 40-meter mural that captures the essence of the band’s influential legacy across decades. This engaging creation not only serves as an attraction for fans but also stands as a metaphorical canvas portraying Birmingham's cultural history and creative energy.

Adding to the excitement, Black Sabbath's “Back To The Beginning” concert marks the first reunion of the original lineup in over two decades. This much-anticipated event promises to deliver an unforgettable spectacle with support from a veritable pantheon of metal acts like Metallica, Guns N' Roses, and Slayer, among others. Hosted at Villa Park, the show sold out in record time, but fans worldwide can still partake in this musical feast through a livestream available from July 5. Remarkably, the concert proceeds will benefit esteemed charities such as Cure Parkinson’s and other local health initiatives, underscoring the event’s philanthropic commitment amidst its celebration of music history.

The multifaceted tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath underscores their pivotal role in shaping modern music and placing Birmingham on the global cultural scene. Sam Watson, chair of Central BID Birmingham, reiterates the city’s pride, highlighting how these legendary figures have been instrumental in defining an era and influencing generations of musicians and fans. Additionally, the Birmingham Museums Trust sees the exhibitions as a seamless alignment with their mission to reflect Birmingham's rich and diverse cultural heritage. By immortalizing these icons through such commemorative events, Birmingham not only honors its native sons but also cements its position as a cultural and artistic haven for rock music enthusiasts worldwide.

All eyes are on Birmingham as it embraces its legacy, with the Ozzy Osbourne exhibition promising an enriching experience for fans and music history aficionados alike. This summer, Birmingham transforms into a pilgrimage site for those looking to walk in the footsteps of legends, offering a rare opportunity to connect with the monumental legacy of Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath right in the heart of their birthplace.
