Devo, the iconic New Wave band, is marking a significant milestone this year with a series of celebratory events encapsulating their legendary career. Known for their innovative approach to music and visual artistry, Devo is embarking on a farewell tour titled the “Cosmic De-Evolution Tour” this September. This tour is co-headlined with The B-52s, offering fans a nostalgic journey through the landscape of new wave music that reshaped the genre. Set to kick off at Toronto's Budweiser Stage on September 24, the tour will wrap up in Houston on November 2, 2025. This final lap across North America underscores over 50 years of Devo's influential presence in the music scene.

In alignment with the tour, Devo is also unveiling a new documentary simply titled “Devo.” Scheduled to debut on Netflix on August 19, 2025, the film offers a deep dive into the band's origins, artistic evolution, and social impact. Directed by Chris Smith, the documentary premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival where it gained significant acclaim. It narrates the band's journey from Akron, Ohio, highlighting pivotal moments such as their response to the 1970 Kent State shootings, which profoundly influenced their ideology of “de-evolution.” The film not only traces their rise to fame with hits like “Whip It” but also includes rare archival footage and interviews, providing a comprehensive portrait of Devo’s enduring influence.

Complementing these events, Devo, in collaboration with Primary Wave, is launching a YouTube series named “Devolutionary Times.” This bi-weekly series will feature restored versions of their iconic music videos and films, starting with the high-definition release of “The Truth About De-Evolution,” a short film from 1976. This initiative allows Devo to reintroduce their groundbreaking visual work to a new generation, celebrating the artistic creativity that set them apart as pioneers in music video production. This video series not only revives their historic works but also comes with exclusive behind-the-scenes insights from band members, offering fans fresh perspectives on their favorite videos.

The convergence of these ventures, from the documentary to the tour and the YouTube series, illustrates Devo's strategic use of multimedia platforms to celebrate their legacy. The “Devolutionary Times” series serves as a key component of this strategy, reviving their influential visual media work from the past decades. The band’s engagement extends beyond traditional media, as they explore digital avenues such as TikTok to reach wider audiences, further solidifying their lasting impact in both music and digital culture.

As Devo embarks on this monumental farewell, their commitment to art, activism, and innovation remains strongly resonant. The tour promises to be not just a retrospective of their work but a vibrant celebration of a band that has continually pushed boundaries. With each concert, documentary viewing, and video release, Devo channels an ethos that has consistently combined entertainment with a thought-provoking message, ensuring their transformative legacy endures well into the future.

The celebration of Devo’s illustrious career serves not only as a testament to their artistic achievements but as an inspiring example of how bands can creatively adapt over time while remaining true to their core essence. Devo's aptitude for blending music, video, and digital strategies showcases a master class in cultural relevance and adaptive innovation. As they prepare to close this chapter, Devo leaves behind a rich legacy that has imprinted their unique mark on the global music landscape.
