Rock band PLUSH has recently thrown themselves into the spotlight with the release of the music video for their latest single, “Why,” a collaboration with DISTURBED's frontman David Draiman. This track marks a pivotal moment for the band as they explore deeper and more complex soundscapes while staying true to their hard rock roots. The collaboration was not purely musical but interactive, with Draiman co-writing and co-producing alongside PLUSH's Moriah Formica and renowned producer Johnny K, who is noted for his work with both DISTURBED and PLUSH. Moriah Formica has spoken about the inspiration behind “Why,” emphasizing the emotional resonance and societal reflections it embodies. The song captures an ethos of unity amidst division, with Formica noting the reality of challenging times that often leave people feeling empty and hopeless, inspiring the band's message of resilience.

In the music video for “Why,” viewers are treated to a performance by PLUSH set against a backdrop of televisions broadcasting significant pop culture moments, including Kendrick Lamar’s impactful Super Bowl halftime show and Kurt Cobain at the 1993 MTV Video Music Awards. This visual pairing strives to amplify the song's themes of questioning humanity's darkest aspects and encouraging self-education and activism against global atrocities. By positioning these pop culture elements alongside their passionate performance, PLUSH underlines the universality of the dialog the song provokes.

The release of “Why” coincides with PLUSH's nation-spanning “Edge Of Destruction” tour, which began on July 18 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, and is set to conclude on September 25 in Hampton, New Hampshire. The tour offers fans the opportunity to meet the band through exclusive meet-and-greet sessions. Despite the temporary setback of losing guitarist Bella Perron, who left due to ethical disagreements, PLUSH remains committed to their mission to bring rock music back to its prominent position in the industry. PLUSH’s lineup, featuring young, talented women aged 20 to 23, includes vocalist and guitarist Moriah Formica, bassist Ashley Suppa, and drummer Faith Powell. They embody a fierce musical spirit that extends beyond their years, offering a refreshing take on modern rock.

The band's decision to collaborate with Draiman, a vocal supporter of pro-Israel policies, initially invited criticism. However, PLUSH was quick to respond, clarifying their stance and the true intentions behind “Why.” They emphasized that the track is not political but rather a call for unity amid oppression and hatred. It seeks to bridge differences, welcoming diverse beliefs and perspectives among its members and fans. PLUSH remains dedicated to using their platform to combat intolerance against any race, sexuality, gender, or religion, reinforcing their message through both their lyrics and social presence.

David Draiman’s involvement with PLUSH came as no surprise to those familiar with his previous endorsements. In 2022, he publicly lauded PLUSH as a new band that gave him hope, signaling a belief in their musical vision and potential. This endorsement held a reciprocal element, as Draiman's contributions helped shape the sonic and thematic direction of “Why,” lending his experience in crafting rock anthems that resonate with audiences worldwide.

PLUSH's “Why” stands as a significant milestone in the band’s career, merging profound socio-political commentary with energizing rock elements. The collaboration with David Draiman adds a layer of depth and recognition, underscoring PLUSH's aspirations not just as musicians, but as cultural commentators using their art to inspire and provoke important conversations. Whether through their empowering tour performances or their reflective yet hard-hitting new single, PLUSH continues to fortify their position in the rock music scene, appealing to fans old and new by inviting them to participate actively in the dialogue around unity, hope, and change.
