Calling all 90s kids, Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse are plotting a U.S. tour.

The excitement in the indie-rock scene is palpable as The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse announce their co-headlining tour across the United States. This co-headlining tour called “The Good Times Are Killing Me,” is set to kick off on August 1, in Atlanta, Georgia, stirring up summer excitement for fans across 18 illustrious locations. The lineup features not only the co-headlining acts but also includes opening performances by young and promising bands Friko and Dehd. These bands will open in select cities, adding a fresh layer of indie soundscapes to the established setlists of The Flaming Lips and Modest Mouse.

Reflecting on recent milestones, both bands are coming off notable anniversaries of their iconic albums. Modest Mouse celebrated the 20th anniversary of “Good News for People Who Love Bad News” last year with a special reissue and tour, while The Flaming Lips commemorated 20 years of “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots” with a dedicated touring schedule. These moments in musical history serve as a reminder of their enduring impact and relevance in the indie rock genre. Fans can look forward to hearing these classic tracks live, alongside new material and surprises that the bands might introduce during their performances.

The tour itinerary includes major city stops such as Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Minneapolis, Houston, Los Angeles, and more, wrapping up on September 11, in Troutdale, Oregon. Friko will support select shows, while Dehd will join towards the latter part of the tour. Notably, the shows in Oregon will feature Modest Mouse closing each night, adding a local flair given the band's ties to the Pacific Northwest. Fans can anticipate a dynamic setlist and an engaging audio-visual experience at each venue, characteristic of both bands' reputations for innovative live shows.

Additional excitement surrounds the tour as tickets go on sale on March 28, with a special pre-sale on March 26. This announcement has lead to a race to secure seats and witness firsthand the collaboration of these two legendary indie rock groups. Moreover, this tour presents an opportunity for new fans to experience their live performances, perhaps for the first time, as both bands continue to expand their audience reach.
