The 2025 Academy Awards will feature an evocative tribute to the iconic music producer Quincy Jones, with the multi-talented Queen Latifah poised to deliver a heartfelt performance. The tribute, as announced by executive producer Raj Kapoor during a recent press conference, is set to be one of the night’s most exhilarating moments, designed to honor Jones’s extensive contributions to both music and film. This highly anticipated segment of the event not only celebrates Quincy Jones’s monumental legacy but also highlights Queen Latifah’s close relationship with the legendary figure. Latifah, renowned for her versatility as an artist, shared a long-standing friendship with Jones, performing on two tracks from his acclaimed 1995 album, Q's Jook Joint.

Quincy Jones passed away in November 2024 at the age of 91, leaving behind a formidable legacy that includes numerous Oscar nominations and a profound impact on the music and entertainment industries. Known for his groundbreaking achievements, Jones was the first Black musician to serve as music director for the Oscar telecast. His illustrious career saw him receive seven Academy Award nominations and be honored with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1995, along with an Academy Honorary Award last year. Jones’s contributions are not limited to these accolades as he also mentored countless artists who have shaped modern music.

The Oscars ceremony, hosted by Conan O'Brien at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, promises to be a night of surprises, with additional performances from artists such as Doja Cat, Ariana Grande, and Cynthia Erivo, alongside Latifah's poignant tribute. Producer Kapoor emphasized the joyous and uplifting nature of the tribute, aiming to capture the essence of Quincy Jones’s spirit and his immeasurable contributions to the arts. The performance is curated to be more than just an homage, it is a jubilant celebration designed to resonate with audiences and honor Jones’s lasting influence.
