The anticipation surrounding Deftones' forthcoming album is reaching fever pitch among their fans, as the band's lead vocalist, Chino Moreno, has hinted that new music is on the horizon. This confirmation came during a conversation with Billboard Español, where Moreno expressed excitement about the progress of their upcoming album, indicating that it is “very close to being ready.” This news accompanies the band's current tour with The Mars Volta, capturing the attention of rock music aficionados eagerly awaiting new Deftones material.

Since the release of their 2020 album, Ohms, the Deftones have been relatively quiet on the new music front. The mention of a nearing album release has sparked eagerness among their dedicated fanbase. Moreno has optimistically suggested that the album might coincide with the tour, sparking speculation that a summer or fall release could be on the cards. This would continue their tradition of crafting emotionally charged and sonically ambitious records, as evidenced by the singles “Ceremony” and the titular track from Ohms.

The band is currently engaged in a comprehensive North American tour, with performances across a range of prominent venues. The tour started on February 25, 2025, in Portland, Oregon. This tour not only marks Deftones' return to the stage but also potentially sets the backdrop for unveiling new tracks live, giving fans a firsthand experience of what's next.

While the album remains a work in progress, Moreno's other project, Crosses, is taking a temporary backseat. Crosses, the collaboration between Moreno and guitarist Shaun Lopez, has already ended their tour promoting the 2023 album, Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. Although sidelined by Deftones' upcoming plans, both Moreno and Lopez have expressed a mutual interest in returning to the studio when commitments with Deftones allow, showcasing the duo's ongoing creative synergy.

According to Moreno, the recordings for the new Deftones album, which took place throughout early 2024 with producer Nick Raskulinecz, are touted to reflect a sonic evolution that fans can anticipate. Known for working with Alice in Chains and Foo Fighters, Raskulinecz’s expertise is expected to reinforce Deftones' distinctive sound that seamlessly integrates aggressive and melodic elements, making their next album one of the most anticipated releases in the rock scene this year.
