TWO LANES

Lane 8
Childish is a mark of creative rebirth for the relatively private Daniel Goldstein, better known publicly as Lane 8 — a document of self-discovery that’s resulted in his most meaningful music to date. These ten songs are the culmination of Goldstein’s decade-plus long career as Lane 8, which has been balanced with a personal life full of music, art, family, and the joy that creativity so often generates.
The title – and concept – was spawned through Goldstein’s observing his kids as they grew older and more artistically curious in their forms of play. “Our kids had gone from being very small to being real people,” he muses.“It was inspiring to watch them become creative—drawing, crafts, bead projects, silly songs — in this very innocent and pure way. It also made me realize my own process had deviated so far from that. I was thinking too much about the results and not enough about experiencing the joy of creativity. I realized I can just make an album for the pure enjoyment of it, without worrying too much how it will be received or even if it will work at my shows.”
Altogether, these songs form a deeply personal artistic statement from Goldstein. “I set out to make music that was for myself, first and foremost—music that, in that moment, was what I was really excited about. From my perspective, it brings together a lot of the things that I’ve touched on in individual songs but hadn’t necessarily put all together on an album.”
Bob Sinclar
French electronic music producer and DJ Christophe Le Friant, known as Bob Sinclar, rose to fame in the late ’90s and 2000s, introducing French house music to a global audience. His hits like ‘Love Generation’ and ‘World, Hold On’ garnered him widespread recognition, including a Grammy nomination. As the founder of Yellow Productions, a prominent French label established in 1993, he has been a driving force in the music industry, collaborating with talented artists like Steve Edwards and Alain Ho.
Starting his musical journey in the ’80s as Chris the French Kiss, he later adopted the persona of Bob Sinclar and released successful albums like ‘Paradise’ and ‘Champs Elysees,’ which achieved gold status in France. Sinclar’s chart-topping singles like ‘Rock This Party’ and ‘Tennessee’ solidified his position in the music scene. Throughout the 2010s, he continued to innovate, infusing his classic hits with reggae vibes on ‘Made in Jamaica’ and collaborating with renowned artists such as Shaggy, Pitbull, and Snoop Dogg, showcasing his versatile musical prowess and global influence.
Martin Solveig
Though he grew up singing in the church choir and studying classical music, by age 13 French DJ Martin Solveig (born Martin Picandet) had his first pair of turntables and was showing off his skills to his friends. At 18, while working in a local record store, he further discovered the complexity of electronic music, and shortly thereafter was spinning at some of the most prestigious clubs in Paris. In 2001, Solveig worked with Bob Sinclar on Africanism, contributing his track “Edony” to the album. The single went on to be a hit, and after graduating from college, the DJ decided to release a full-length record. Sur la Terre — which came out in 2002 on his own label, Mixture, and was made using both live and electronic instrumentation — was also inspired by African rhythms, leading to a remix of Malian singer Salif Keita’s song “Malan.” In 2004 Solveig decided to move toward American funk and rock, releasing “Rocking Music,” sung by Jay Sebag, followed by another full-length, Hedonist, in 2005. A third album, C’est la Vie, was issued in 2008, but it was only with his fourth effort, 2011’s aptly titled Smash, that he finally broke through into the mainstream. Home to a number of singles featuring Dragonette, Smash included Solveig’s chart-topping hit song “Hello” with the Canadian band, the success of which attracted the interest of Madonna. The singer chose him to work on her album MDNA, and the pair developed a mutual respect and a close working relationship in the studio. Post-MDNA, Solveig continued collaborating, releasing The Night Out EP in 2012; the 2013 single “Hey Now” with the Cataracs, and “Blow” featuring Laidback Luke in 2014. In 2015, Solveig returned with “Intoxicated” with the production duo GTA, as well as the house music-infused “+1,” with vocals by Sam White. “Do It Right” with Tkay Maidza and “Places” with Ina Wroldsen arrived the next year, with the Alma-featuring “All Stars” landing in 2017. The following year, he issued “My Love.” ~ Marisa Brown & Neil Z. Yeung
