Setzer Reveals Health Battle

Rockabilly icon Brian Setzer, best known as the frontman of the Stray Cats, recently revealed that he has been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that has severely affected his ability to play guitar. Setzer explained that during the band’s 2024 tour he began to notice his hands cramping and tightening, saying it felt as if he were “wearing a pair of gloves when I try to play.”

Although he emphasized that he feels no pain, Setzer admitted that the condition currently prevents him from performing. He remains optimistic, stating that he is determined to recover and return to the stage.

Cancellations Announced

The Stray Cats were set to embark on their highly anticipated 2025 North American tour, their first since Setzer’s diagnosis. However, the first two shows on October 25 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and October 26 in Rockford, Illinois, were canceled after Setzer’s team announced he was suffering from a “serious illness.”

In a heartfelt message to fans, Setzer wrote, “I’m heartbroken to share that due to serious illness, I am unable to perform and very regrettably have to cancel tonight’s show. I’ve been trying to do everything I can to go on, but it is just not possible. I’ve been looking forward so much to being on stage, and I’m gutted.”

Impact on Future Performances

Setzer previously revealed that his illness has made even simple daily tasks like writing and tying his shoes difficult. The latest cancellations have raised concerns about whether the remainder of the tour can continue as scheduled.

As of now, the band has not announced whether additional dates will be postponed or canceled. Fans are awaiting updates on Setzer’s condition and whether he will be able to perform later in the tour.

Looking Ahead

Autoimmune diseases often require long-term treatment and careful management, which can make live performance unpredictable. Industry insiders suggest that the Stray Cats’ future touring plans may depend heavily on Setzer’s recovery timeline.

Despite the setback, the rockabilly legend continues to receive an outpouring of support from fans and fellow musicians, many of whom have praised his resilience and influence on American roots music.
